The official birthstone for the month of February is the stunning purple amethyst and hence the February birthstone color is purple.
February is one of the few months that only have one birthstone, so there is no alternative February gemstone.
Amethyst is one of the Zodiac birthstones for both for both Aquarius (Jan 21 – Feb 19) and Pisces (Feb 20 – Mar 20) star signs.
Other birthday symbols include the birth flowers for February which are the Violet, Iris and Primrose.
Besides being a meaningful February birthday gift, Amethyst jewelry is the also given to celebrate a sixth wedding anniversary.
The name amethyst is derived from Greek legend and words that mean ‘to prevent intoxication’.
Amethysts are said to symbolize courage and inner strength.

LAKE NEBAGMON FIRE DEPARTMENT:
The can trailer has been relocated to the fire department parking lot. Please drop your cans off and a huge thank you to all donations as this fundraising account helps to supplement the purchase of fire and medical equipment and gear to keep our community safe.

The ice-skating rink, located in Lake Nebagamon has been flooded and is ready to use when temps are at a safe range. Due to COVID-19 policy the warming shack remains closed. We sure hope all can enjoy some time on the rink and keep safe while enjoying the outdoors. Interesting fact: flooding the rink this year took 30,000 gallons of water. This is equivalent to the amount of water used to fight a fully engulfed house fire. 10 fire trucks at a rate of 1-2 hours per truck load. This is a great training opportunity for the volunteers, from driving the truck, running the pump, practice hose techniques and operate our water points.

Hoping to get back to meeting during this new year. We are always looking for volunteers or those willing to come to meeting to keep our events alive.

Thank you to the local business’ here that support and help the NCA with printing expenses for our monthly newsletter. Please support our community.

I strongly encourage you to look closely at all the candidates as you make your selections for Village President and three trustees for the Village Board. The sacred right of voting for our leaders also holds a sacred responsibility. Government that works best is cooperative. We seek to be a team and work together for the good of all.
