PLOGGING ANYONE?
Jogging and picking up trash simultaneously has a new moniker called “plogging”. A trend among runners and those who want to clean up the litter, Lake Nebagamon is a good candidate for these folks. Dog and leisure walkers can also participate and we call them “Plockers”. With plastic gloves and bags in hand, bend from the knees instead of your back to prevent back strain. Do squats as you lower your body to put the trash into your bag. Very good for the gluts and the thighs. You will beautify your legs as well as the planet!
Barb Resheske says let’s plan a group to plog or plock and have a pizza afterwards. Anyone wishing to sign up, please contact Barb at 715-817-6584.

GETTING OLD ISN’T FOR THE WEAK
Telephone books still have tiny printed names, prescription bottles have child proof caps that can’t be opened by arthritic fingers, remote controls need to be read with a magnifying glass, etc., etc. Some people that don’t have a computer and/or access to Internet services, are charged bank fees for statements to be mailed to them. If they receive them electronically, they are free of charge.
You do have control of your bank service charges. If your bank has started this practice with your account, you can ask them to change the type of account you have so you don’t get charged. If they don’t have an option to offer you, there are many banks that don’t charge and there is also the choice of Credit Unions. I know change is sometimes difficult, but to save money, we need to take control and not pay fees for services that should be offered free of
charge.

DID YOU KNOW?
It is against the State of Wisconsin law to spit on the sidewalks?
I am going to do some research and find out how many people are given tickets for this activity and it will be in August’s Newsletter. Just for curiosity sake.

NATURE NEWS
Monarch Butterflies have been traveling in pursuit of Milkweed for three months. They travel to Southern Canada where the Milkweed range ends.

Females are now laying the second generation of eggs and these will be the grandchildren of the butterflies that wintered in Mexico. It takes about one month for each generation to develop and over the summer, three generations will be produced in the North.

In June, there will be grandchildren, July produces great-grandchildren, and August produces great-great grandchildren.
Monarchs were sighted in Lake Nebagamon in early and mid-June. They were counted and reported to “Journey North”. You too can count Monarchs on their trip north or on their return South beginning in August. Please go online to “Journey North” to participate and join in this fascinating and fun adventure counting our beautiful pollinators.

CORRECTIONS:
We reported in the June, 2018 Newsletter that the law prohibits boaters from being within 150 feet from the fireworks barge. I received a call from Tony Colletta, Lake Nebagamon Fire Department, and he said the distance is now 350 to 500 feet from the barge. This year, they are going to be setting off larger fireworks. Therefore, the distance for the boats to stay away from the barge is greater for safety reasons.
